I read some amazing news this morning while at jury duty and just HAD to share! After 55 years, Harper Lee is publishing a sequel to a book cherished by many. And there is a reason she waited so long…
“In the mid-1950s, I completed a novel called Go Set a Watchman. It features the character known as Scout as an adult woman, and I thought it a pretty decent effort. My editor, who was taken by the flashbacks to Scout’s childhood, persuaded me to write a novel (what became To Kill a Mockingbird) from the point of view of the young Scout,” Harper said in a statement to AP News. “I was a first-time writer, so I did as I was told.”
Her response makes me wonder… What would have happened if Go Set a Watchman was published first? Would we have the same love for Scout that we do now? We can only wait and see.
Go Set a Watchman takes place during Scout’s adult years and what happens when she returns to her hometown. How will going back home affect her?
I am going to pre-order this right now! I can’t wait to read what is technically Lee’s 1st book. I can’t imagine being disappointed seeing as how amazing To Kill A Mockingbird was. The things I learned from that book have stuck with me.
If you have been under a rock and never read To Kill A Mockingbird, download it on your phone, Kindle, or pick up s copy st your local book store. He’ll, get it at the library. You won’t be disappointed.
As for Go Set A Watchman, stay tuned for my review. And you have some time because so far, the release date is July 14th.
